Help the Friends of SS Nenana Repair the Boat!!

The Friends of S.S. Nenana are working with the Fairbanks North Star Borough on the Phase II plan to repair the Stern, Paddle Wheels, and Transom. (back wall) this summer, 2024. We are working on a memorandum of agreement with the borough to do the work.

We need to raise $100,000.00 to make this happen! If you would like to be a part of helping us, you can donate to the Friends of S.S. Nenana at https://www.nscfundalaska.org/support-FSSN

Our fiscal sponsor, the North Star Community Foundation (NSCF), provides administrative services and Internal Revenue compliance oversight. Therefore, we will continue operating under NSCF’s 501(c)(3) non-profit status. Donations to the restoration of the S.S. Nenana are tax deductible. You will receive a receipt for your donation for tax purposes. Any amount of $100.00 or more will receive a receipt for IRS purposes.

The Nenana is the last remaining wooden-hulled steam-powered sternwheeler in Alaska and the U.S. She supplied villages, mines, and WWII military sites. She is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark. Please do what you can to help save this magnificent piece of Alaskan history.

Petition to Save the SS Nenana

Tell the Fairbanks North Star Borough to save the SS Nenana, the last remaining sternwheeler in Alaska out of the 300 that once plied the Yukon and Tanana Rivers.

The FNSB has no plans to do repairs to this National History Landmark this summer. She was once the focal point of Pioneer Park and the community. Today she sits closed to the public and in disrepair, paint peeling off of the boat everywhere. There is exposed wood beginning to rot where the paint is peeled off completely.

Please sign our online petition, or you can stop by our cabin in Pioneer Park Cabin #22 to sign the petition.

We appreciate your support!
